How to layout your Event Kitchen

We have worked on thousands of events, with 50 years of experience working with event organisers and providing catering equipment for hire. We have put together advice on how to plan your Event Kitchen.

When planning your event, it’s important to understand what infrastructure you have to work with the venue of your choice. We also advise to choose your Caterer right at the beginning of the planning process, this will work to your advantage. Your Caterer should be involved in the planning process to design the optimum Event Kitchen. Here are some pointers on what to consider right at the beginning:

·       Find out the space for your event kitchen.

·       Does your venue / kitchen have any existing equipment to work with?

·       Agree the menu with your caterer at the beginning of the planning process to agree what equipment you will require.

·       What layout style will work best for your kitchen?

5 Considerations when planning your Event Kitchen Layout

Before you decide on your layout it’s important to discuss with your caterer and factor in the following components:

1.      Storage / Receiving area

·       This space is where you will store all your cooking utensils, serveware, tableware and food.

·       This is also the space where all your deliveries should be delivered to.

·       You will need to factor storage for your cooking utensils, serveware and tableware

·       You will need to factor food cupboards / pantry for your dry foods, refrigeration for your perishables.

·       You can find our range of refrigeration here

2.      Wash / Hygiene Station

·       This area should be a dedicated space for cleaning utensils and dishes.

·       We have a range of dishwashers, pre rinse sinks and hand sinks to hire you can find here

3.      Food Preparation Area

·       This is the area where you will prepare all your food.

·       We recommend a separate sink for this area so that the dirty dishes don’t come across the food area.

·       You will need a counter space, knives and storage containers to have your area ready.

·       You can find our range of food preparation products here  and kitchen utensils here

4.      Cooking Station

·       This is where you will have your cooking equipment including ovens, cookers, deep fat friers and microwaves

·       We have a dedicated page for cooking equipment for hire both electric and gas

5.      Service area

·       This area is where the service staff will take plated food.

·       You will need counters, heated lights to keep food warm or banquet carts.

·       You can find our range of warming a equipment for hire here

Event Kitchen Layout

Your kitchen layout will ultimately depend on the venue. The best layout for an event is the zone style kitchen layout.  This type of styled event kitchen works well for events and hotels. This type of style allows cooks to have set different areas for different types of dishes, for example soup, salad, pizzas etc which are prepared at the same time. These zone styles keeps your kitchen organised within the different categories and efficient.
